Restylane
Facial aging is a normal part of life and usually begins in your 20s. Skin firmness will begin to decrease due to internal and external factors, and youthful facial volume will diminish. Restylane dermal filler can help to diminish wrinkles and folds, as well as restore youthful volume for a rejuvenated appearance.
What is Restylane®?
Restylane® injectable gels are dermal fillers formulated with hyaluronic acid to increase your natural supply of hyaluronic acid and collagen for supple refreshing changes in your skin through lifting, restoring volume, filling lines, and hydration. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by the body to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, making it an excellent substance to use in dermal fillers. There are a number of products in the Restylane® family, each used to address different signs of facial aging.
All Restylane® injectable gels are FDA-approved for various indications in adults over the age of 21 irrespective of filler used. Below are the FDA-approved indications of the various Restylane® fillers although there are numerous off-label applications of these injectable gels. The specific choice of filler is customized to each patient and each area treated.

Restylane® Kysse for Plumper Lips
Restylane® Kysse is a popular option for lip enhancement. It is a hyaluronic acid-based lip filler specifically created to add fullness to your lips, as well as enhance the color and texture of your lips. It may also be used to help smoothen wrinkles around the upper lip (perioral lines). Designed with XpresHAn Technology™ to cross-link the gel, it provides natural-looking results that last up to one year.
Prior to your treatment, your skin will be cleansed and numbing cream applied to your treatment area. Restylane® Kysse will then be injected into your lips once the numbing cream had a chance to work. Because this filler is formulated with lidocaine to help numb your lips, you should not feel any discomfort during your treatment. Dr. Walker may gently massage the treated area(s) to ensure that the filler is evenly distributed for a natural-looking and smooth result. The entire process is fairly quick, taking only about 15-45 minutes to complete with no downtime.
Who is a good Candidate for Restylane®?
Individuals over the age of 21 can benefit from Restylane® injections. Ideal candidates are healthy individuals looking for natural-looking results without undergoing surgery.
You should not receive Restylane® treatment if you have severe allergies, are allergic to lidocaine, have a bleeding disorder, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a history of scarring. The best way to determine candidacy is through a consultation appointment with Dr. Walker. He will take a detailed history during your consultation and examine your face to determine if you are a good candidate for filler treatment. He will also choose the most appropriate filler with you, taking your goals and possible preferences into consideration.
How is the Restylane® Procedure Done?
Restylane® injections typically only take approximately 15-30 minutes to perform depending on how many and which areas are being addressed. Your face will be cleansed to remove any residual make-up and sterilely prepped for a safe treatment. Injection sites will then be carefully selected. To reduce discomfort during the treatment, ice will be applied to the skin and the fillers utilized will also contain the local anesthetic lidocaine. Upon your request and for lip treatments, a topical numbing cream will be applied as well. Dr. Walker often uses microcannulas depending on the area being treated to reduce discomfort further and to help minimize the chance of bruising. After your treatment, you are allowed to go back to your daily routine, but strenuous activity, including exercise, should be avoided for at least 24 hours. You should be careful not to manipulate your face excessively after your treatment and to avoid massaging the filler into other areas.
RESTYLANE® RECOVERY
Following Restylane® injections, there is no downtime, so you can return to your everyday routine as soon as you feel comfortable. Makeup may be applied immediately. Mild swelling, redness, and bruising may occur, and you should be careful to avoid strenuous activity and sun exposure for the first 24 hours after treatment. Results should last anywhere from 6-18 months, depending on the filler used.
