Radiesse
As we get older, our natural collagen stores begin to deplete, often resulting in facial lines, wrinkles, and folds. If you are looking for a non-surgical solution to combat these signs of aging, Radiesse may be for you. This dermal filler is created specifically to restore collagen in the skin, creating long-lasting, beautiful results.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a dermal filler that stimulates the production of collagen in your body, resulting in a refreshed, youthful appearance. It is made up of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in an aqua gel carrier. Over time, the gel is absorbed and your body metabolizes the CaHA microspheres, just leaving behind your own collagen.
The most common areas that Radiesse is used include folds and wrinkles around the mouth and areas that have lost youthful fat in the face. These include:
- Smile lines.
- Marionette lines.
- Pre-jowl folds.
- Corners of the mouth.
- Chin wrinkles.
Radiesse is not suited for injections into areas of thin skin such as the lips or under eyes (tear trough). Results may last up to 2 years. Unlike Restylane or Juvéderm, Radiesse is not a reversible filler through the injections of a dissolving substance but is also a temporary filler like Restylane or Juvéderm.
Who is a Good Candidate for Radiesse?
Individuals over age 21 who have folds and wrinkles around their mouth and nose are often good candidates for Radiesse. Ideal candidates are physically healthy with realistic expectations for the outcome of their treatment. Be sure to tell Dr. Walker if you have a history of raised scarring, have any medical conditions, or are on immunosuppressive therapy during your consultation appointment to ensure this treatment is right for you. Radiesse is FDA-approved for moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, as well as for volume loss in the back of your hands.
How is the Radiesse Procedure Done?
Radiesse injections are performed in the office using local anesthesia. Dr. Walker will skillfully inject Radiesse into the targeted treatment area(s) using a thin needle or cannula. Depending on the number of injections needed, treatment may take 15-45 minutes.
Radiesse Recovery
Following your Radiesse treatment, you should see an immediate improvement in the treated area(s). You may experience mild swelling and bruising, which is normal. There is no downtime required, however, you should avoid strenuous exercise, direct sunlight, and heat for at least 24 hours, or until your swelling has subsided.
Results from Radiesse injections can last anywhere from 12 to 18 months. In order to maintain your results, touch-up treatments may be required.
