Everything You Need to Know about Lip Filler Recovery

Lip fillers are one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatment performed each year. If you’re considering lip fillers, then it’s important to take the right steps for your “recovery” so you can get the most out of your treatment. Here’s what to know about your lip filler treatment and what you can expect afterward.

Avoid Strenuous Exercise

Strenuous workouts, especially 24 hours to 48 after injection, elevates your heart rate and puts strain on your blood vessels. This can cause bruising and swelling to worsen so it’s best to stick to light activities like walking after your procedure. Alternatively, make sure to do your workout before your appointment.

Avoid Heat

The lips are likely to swell when you’re in an environment with high temperatures. Avoiding saunas, hot showers, or the outdoors (if it’s hot outside) is best for the first day after your appointment.

Apply Ice

Icing of the lips, especially during the first 24 hours, is critical to help minimize the swelling.

Keep Your Body Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water keeps the body hydrated, an important factor in speeding the recovery process. Since hyaluronic acid fillers work by drawing moisture to it, giving your body plenty of water can help boost your results and prevent dehydration.

Recovery Time is a Factor

Events like weddings, birthday parties, baby showers, or even graduation can be a great time to consider a little boost to your confidence with lip fillers. However, it’s important to time your procedure appropriately so you can give your body time to heal and produce the results you’re hoping for. Make sure to talk with your injector about your schedule and whether you’ll be ready in time. Typically at least 1-2 weeks prior to the event.

Check Your Sleeping Position

Your sleeping position can have a big effect on your results. Make sure to keep your head elevated for the first 24 hours when sleeping and avoid sleeping on your side (which can put pressure on your fillers).

Avoid Alcohol

Alcohol tends to cause inflammation in the body, making the veins swell. This can cause swelling and bruising, as well as hampering your healing. Make sure to avoid alcohol for the first 24 hours so your body can recover appropriately.

Avoid Salt

Sodium and salt pulls in water and increased the swelling. It is best to minimze the intake of salt, sodium, and other high-sodium items for 1 week after the treatment.
