What is Juvéderm®?
Juvéderm® injectable gels are dermal fillers formulated with hyaluronic acid to increase your natural supply of hyaluronic acid and collagen for supple refreshing changes in your skin through filling lines, wrinkles, and hydration. Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by the body to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles, making it an excellent substance to use in dermal fillers. There are a number of products in the Juvéderm family, each used to address different signs of facial aging.
Members of the Juvéderm family of fillers are Juvéderm XC®, Juvéderm Ultra XC®, Juvéderm Volbella®, Juvéderm Vollure®, Juvéderm Voluma®.
All Juvéderm® injectable gels are indicated for adults over the age of 21 irrespective of filler used. Below are the FDA-approved indications of the various Juvéderm® fillers although there are numerous off-label applications of these injectable gels. The specific choice of filler is customized to each patient and each area treated.

Juvéderm® Voluma for the Midface
Juvéderm® Voluma is a hyaluronic-acid based dermal filler used to lift and contour the midface and cheeks. The filler is different from others in that the formula is cross-linked using Vycross technology, which helps to create amazing lifting abilities. Voluma® also offers:
- Little bruising or swelling.
- Added lidocaine further reduces discomfort.
- Smooth gel formula allows for precise injections.

Who is a Good Candidate for Juvéderm®?
Both men and women over the age of 21 can benefit from Juvéderm® treatment. Ideal candidates are those who wish to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and lines, fill in their cheeks, or add volume to their lips or other parts of the face using dermal filler. People who are healthy and have realistic expectations often see the best results from their treatment.
If you are breastfeeding, pregnant, have a history of excessive scarring, are on immunosuppressive therapy, or have a pigmentation disorder, you may not be a good candidate for Juvéderm®. Be sure to discuss your medical history with Dr. Walker during your consultation appointment to ensure a safe treatment experience.
How is the Juvéderm® Procedure Done?
During your Juvéderm® treatment, Dr. Walker will first assess your face and possibly label the area(s) with a marking pen. Juvéderm® will then be carefully injected into the target areas using a small needle or microcannula, whichever is more appropriate in your specific case. Because the filler also contains a small amount of lidocaine, treatment should be virtually painless. Dr. Walker will then lightly massage the treated area(s) to ensure that the product is distributed evenly. Treatment time may vary, depending on the number of areas being treated, but generally takes 15-45 minutes.
Juvéderm® Recovery
While there is no downtime required following Juvéderm® injections, clients should avoid strenuous exercise, sun exposure, and alcohol consumption for at least 24 hours after treatment. Swelling is to be expected, but it is temporary and will dissipate with time. Results usually last between 6 to 18 months, depending on the type of Juvéderm® product used.
